Our products are designed for those who demand a refined tool of uncompromising quality, cabinet shops that need peak productivity as well as versatility, and professional craftsmen who expect flawless performance every time.

Product Design

Kevan Lear, the designer of the AKEDA jig, was for many years a product design and development consultant in the Pacific Northwest. During its 20 years of operations, his company designed over 150 consumer products, and achieved a reputation for elegance and innovation. You may already own one of the products he designed, or taken a ride in one!

A keen woodworker, one of his clients was Leigh Industries Ltd. Kevan personally designed all the Leigh Dovetail Jigs that were invented by Leigh Industries during the 1980s.

But he always felt there must be a better way to form a dovetail joint with a router and a dovetail bit. So he started with a clean sheet of paper and set out to design a superior dovetail jig, one that would stand up better to heavy usage, be easier to learn and set up, and be far more intuitive and enjoyable to use.

The result, the highly refined new generation AKEDA jig was launched in 2002. It was immediately acclaimed by reviewers as the "new mark by which all other dovetail jigs would be measured", and hailed by professional woodworkers as "a landmark improvement over the Leigh dovetail jig". Kevan continues to provide design services to AKEDA.

We're a leader in innovation. In fact, we're flattered by how we're often copied by other manufacturers who fail to innovate. AKEDA was first with dust collection, full router support, permanently parallel hand-free clamping, automatic work piece positioning, and many other features new to dovetail jigs. Nothing's changed at AKEDA. More innovative products are on the way!

The original owner of the company achieved a reputation for technical support unsurpassed in the industry. He is also the inventor and designer of the AKEDA technology. You can still speak to him in person when you call technical support!

Environment

We try hard to minimize our impact on the environment. Whenever and wherever possible, we endeavor to use manufacturing materials that have a minimal impact on the environment and that can be effectively recycled in the future. The result is a more rugged and durable tool, built the traditional way with virtually all-metal construction. We recycle everything at the office.
